Can you explain the advantages and disadvantages of wigs with skin top, partial skin top, and non skin top, please?

Some hairstyles that are smoother or longer tend to lay flatter, showing the partings.
That's why the need for a scalp that looks natural.
Those scalps, while beautiful, are usually on a slab of rubber though and can add to the discomfort of wearing a full wig.
If your style if fuller and doesn't show a parting, you can wear a more open weave wig. Not only are they cooler but you can use a crochet hook to pull your natural hair through the openings to achieve a highlighted look or just to make it more secure feeling.
All these variations in cap styles and hairstyles really just add to the fun and the choices.
I hope that helped.:}

Okay, I was stupid. I had on one of my favorite synthetic wigs when I opened the oven door. Now the front is kind of frizzled. Is there anything I (or you) can do?

Oh no!!!! That sounds like something I would do!
Well sadly, when it comes to synthetic, nothing short of a haircut will do.
Is this a wig you think would look cute shorter? You might be surprised at how little may have to be cut to get past the singe.
Remember..the only thing a gal really needs in the kitchen is an apron, everything else is optional.

Can you explain what a rooted wig is and how to achieve it!

The term "rooted" refers to a color demarcation.

For instance, if you look at someone's hair who hasn't had their color touched up, i.e. a blonde with dark roots, you might see roots anywhere from 1/2 inch to 1 1/2 inches long.

This can actually look great. Coffee brown roots with pale copper looks really nice. There are a lot of attractive two-tone combinations.

If you have a wig that's pale enough to show a difference, you can simply stain the roots a little darker. It gives a lot of depth perception and makes it look more natural.

Thanks for the great question.

Can a synthetic wig be dyed?

Hi and thanks for the great question.

Technically speaking, no. Synthetic wigs are made of plastic with a very smooth surface so they can't absorb color like actual hair.

However, you can stain a synthetic wig. This technique only works going darker: you cannot lighten a synthetic wig. Using a fabric dye, like Rit™ brand, try mixing about 4 oz. product to a gallon of water and soak the wig in it until you achieve a desired darkening.

Wash it well with synthetic wig shampoo and don't forget to condition well too. Also, you can put the stain mixture in a spray bottle and mist the wig evenly until you achieve a desired color. This works great for layering stain tones.

I hope this helps.
