State of the Group Address - 2007

I'm writing about the state of our group. As Chairperson of Kappa-Beta I'm concerned about the welfare of our beloved group and so should all the members.

All of the members who have been around here for some time now should know that I'm a very straight-forward person, that I tell it like it is, that I only want the best from our group and it's members. I won't ask any member to do something that I wouldn't do myself.

I do feel that we have some matters that should be addressed at this time. First, we need to update/revise our By-laws on several topics, then vote for approval of them.

Second, we are going to remove all non-paying members from the group list at the close of business after February's meeting. It's not fair to all the members who have paid to keep the non-paying members on board. To get reinstated is simple: make your payment. Remember that in order to vote, you must be a paid member in good standing and attend at least one (1) meeting per calendar quarter.

Third, financially the group is holding its own; we have raised the annual and monthly rates to help. The board felt that it had to be done to continue improving the group. We are not happy about raising the rates but it was needed.

We are happy about last month's turnout (wish that happened every month). As I have stated before, "participation is the key to our success."

Fourth, we must start planning what our activities will be for the remainder of the year. So, please give your input/suggestions to a board member.

Nancy and I went to Myrtle Beach on January 21 and had a great time with Sigma Mu Beta (a sister Tri-Ess group). We went on an exploratory visit to find out how they conduct their meetings, find out what they do to attract new members, etc. They welcomed us and, in turn, we invited them to attend our meeting some time.

I believe that we are making progress; that we should continue to support each other and our board in regards to making this the best group around in our area.
