What Friendship Means To Me

According to Webster's Dictionary, a friend is "A person whom one knows, likes, and trusts. An acquaintance. A person with whom one is allied in a struggle or cause. A supporter, sympathizer or patron of a group, cause, or movement." So in plain English: it is a bond between two people. An acquaintance is "Knowledge or information. Knowledge of a person acquired by a relationship less intimate then friendship."

I usually start out meeting someone or being introduced to him or her through someone else. That makes them an acquaintance. After meeting them I usually decide whether they will stay an acquaintance or if they are friendship material.

Friendship

It’s the middle of October already! It only seems like a moment ago that I wore my green monster mask and pink hair to the October 2005 meeting…

I am sitting here, trying to stir up the creative juices to write an interesting and/or informative item for the Pink Slip, but it’s just not happening. Maybe it’s the dreary, rainy day we’re having. Perhaps it’s the call I just got from Toyota’s service department with the latest repair estimate on my car (I really didn’t need that $178 anyway; probably would have just wasted it on pantyhose or wigs, or something like that).

Reaching Out

Ladies, it has been an interesting year for Kappa Beta, but we have also seen some challenges. We are coming up on our fall elections for the Board slate, and the new Board will face these challenges in the hope of strengthening and renewing our enthusiasm as a group.

I have no doubt that the Board will tackle these challenges, but guess what? Each and every member of Kappa Beta needs to participate and add her own individual value to the things that need to be done. Overall, we will be faced with two big tasks in the year ahead. One of these is the renewal that I spoke of earlier. But I’m not going to address renewal in this article. Instead, I’m going to address “strengthening”.

The strengthening that I am referring to here is new members. Every organization relies heavily on continuously adding new blood to its membership, and we are no different. As a matter of fact, I believe that it is even more critical for us to always be adding new members, because it seems that currently the nature of our membership is to be active in KB for a couple of years and then move on to different experiences.
