What's It Like

Something that's been on my mind lately is trying to describe to the non-TG what it's like. Of course there's no real way to do that. But here's the beginning of my idea:

We've all had to be in really hot rooms for a while, especially here in the South. You start sweating and you can feel your energy sapped from you. It affects you ability to think and interact. It certainly makes you irritable.

Say What You Mean

Did you ever stop and realize that some of the things you commonly say are not really what you mean even though they are generally understood? A very common example of this is when you say "I don't think…" when what you really mean is "I [do] think … not …" For example, "I don't think Nancy is an ugly woman" really should be "I think Nancy is not an ugly woman."

What brought this on? Well, the other day, I told my sister "I love being a girl." She corrected me, without realizing it, by saying "You love being you." Well, duh!

21st Century Southern Belle

One of my earliest memories as a young lad of eight was of a picture of a southern belle woman dressed in a beautiful Civil War era gown. That image stayed with me until this summer when I finally emailed a seamstress in NY about making a dress for me. She was delighted to do so and did a wonderful job for me. The next step was to find a place to wear this dress.

Lazy Nancy

I was talking with my neighbor, Gloria, the other night. I've only recently met her, so she is still a little [sic] confused when it comes to crossdressers and transsexuals. Terminology is not her strong suit.

She mentioned that she had seen me as both “Nancy” and “John” (not my real former male name, but it will do for this discussion). Now it is true that she has seen me outside without hair and makeup on. Being called by my male name is somewhat upsetting for me, so I didn't like it, but bit my tongue.

Evelyn's Poem

There is nothing quite so painful
Of having to give what we love.
We cry, we say "oh no, not this"
To God, who is up above.

Tho we may never understand
We must accept His ways.
And try to live for all our lives
His way for all our days.

Yes, even though it's painful;
To give them up it's true.
He only lent them to us;
And now the debt is due.

We all must pay whatever we do,
To God who is up above.
Remembering always that He only
Does for us with love
