Kappa Beta’s Direction for 07

KB is in a midst of change; your actions during the recent election provide evidence that the membership wants change. In order for the group to change, we must, as members, express our thoughts, concerns, and suggestions to the board so that they can make them happen.

As I’m sure you know, the board is made up of members that operate and insure that the group maintains its goals and gets done what needs to be accomplished each month. The board is here to listen to your concerns, take suggestions and act on your behalf. Without your support, the board cannot do much of anything. The board needs your help in this time of change now more than ever.

What do you, as members, want to change? What do you want to remain the same? As a member, then as a board member, and now as the Chairperson, my big thing is "ATTENDANCE."

As a member, I wanted to see more members attending each month (the more the merrier). As a board member, I had wanted to change things to make the meetings more enjoyable and have members want to attend. The previous Chairperson didn't want change. Now as Chairperson I'm in the position to make the decisions to make them happen. I plan on having a board meeting each month (last year we only had one) with the board members and then a group business meeting to follow.

Recently we were asked, "Is this a support group or a social group?" Well to answer that question, I believe that Kappa Beta is both supportive and social as a group. We give support to those who need it or want it. We get support from the other members when they attend meetings or through the Yahoo groups. We socialize at the same time.

However, support and socializing cannot take place like we like it to without your attendance at the monthly meetings. When the same 5-7 members attend each month we don't even pay for the hotel room with the dues that are collected. When members don't attend, the group loses out — and so do the members. Without your attendance there is little support. I would like to see all the members attend as many meetings as possible so they get as much support as they need and the group gets the support it needs from all the members.

What can we do to get new members to join and old members to rejoin? This group is only as strong as the weakest member. Help KB through this time of change.
