You can’t pick up a newspaper or watch the news without seeing or hearing it again: dissension, anger, and vilification. Democrats think Republicans are war-mongering rich people who don’t care about the average person. Republicans think Democrats are pie-in-the-sky nut cases who don’t have the foresight to see how their liberal thinking is going to destroy the American way of life.

It’s not just the political parties; it’s everywhere! School boards vs. parents, team coaches vs. the leagues, athletes vs. the media, Israel vs. the Arabs, Iran vs. the U.S./”free world”, drug companies vs. litigants, George Bush vs. everyone and so on ad infinitum! Controversy, controversy, and more controversy!

That’s why I am looking forward to the year ahead with the members and SO’s of Kappa Beta. We’re going to have a beautiful fall season, with cooler temps and the opportunity to not completely sweat off gallons of perspiration under all of those garments. We’ll be able to wear fall outfits that have been slowly mildewing in our storage locker all summer long (oh wait… that’s just me). We’ll have the opportunity to begin planning for our annual Christmas Party, and trying to figure out ways to make it better and more fun than ever.

We’re going to be working together, all of us, at making sure that we a do a many times better job of reaching out to potential members, and making them feel 100% welcome and secure when they finally venture out to our meetings. We’re going to be working together, all of us, to figure out how to rekindle current member interest in attending meetings and in some cases, even paying their annual dues. We’re going to be brainstorming new ways to have fun, and making our friendship and sisterhood even stronger than it ever was.

In short, here’s to the next twelve months! Please, be a part of it, because we cannot do it without you!
