The Election Process

I’d like to take advantage of my position to make some comments on the recent elections.

With three candidates for two At Large positions, there was a bit of campaigning. Some people seemed to take offense at this.

Whenever there are more candidates than seats, there is what is commonly called "politics." This is a fact of life; it cannot be avoided.

For those who really don't know what the Board should be doing for KB, let me just say that the vote for the Board should NOT be a popularity contest, as some people apparently see it. The Board has business to take care of, and some of it is fairly important to the running and health of our group.

Those who are elected to the Board need to take the position seriously and do their best to make sure the Board represents YOU in their decisions. You should be looking for candidates who positively differentiate themselves in the way you prefer. Whether that person is your best friend, or not, should be immaterial.

Politics is not a four-letter word. I will agree that we don’t need the vitriol that accompanies many other elections. But I also believe that KB members do need to know what the candidates want to do when (if) they get elected.
